ORLANDO, Fla.

Wesley Snipes surrendered to authorities Friday on tax fraud charges, two months after he was indicted, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

Snipes flew into an Orlando airport on a private jet and voluntarily surrendered, said the official, who confirmed the arrest on the condition of anonymity because it hadn’t been announced publicly.

Snipes was to appear in federal court in Ocala on Friday morning, the official said. Snipes was charged in October with fraudulently claiming refunds totaling nearly $12 million in 1996 and 1997 on income taxes already paid.

The star of the “Blade” trilogy and other films was also charged with failure to file returns from 1999 through 2004. According to the indictment, Snipes had his taxes prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients.

The firm American Rights Litigators would receive 20 percent of refunds from clients, according to the indictment. The 44-year-old actor has said he is a scapegoat and was unfairly targeted by prosecutors, and has suggested he was taken advantage of.

A publicist for Snipes didn’t return a phone message Friday. If convicted, he faces up to 16 years in prison

NEW YORK

After igniting a media firestorm by flashing her apparent lack of underwear to the paparazzi, Britney Spears is finally talking.

“It’s been so long since I’ve been out on the town with friends,” the singer writes in a posting Thursday on her Web site.

“It’s also been 2 years since I’ve even celebrated my birthday. Every move I make at this point has been magnified more than I expected, and I probably did take my new found freedom a little too far. Anyway, thank God for Victoria’s Secrets’ new underwear line! I look forward to a new year, new music and a new me.”

Spears, the mother of two young sons, celebrated her 25th birthday on Dec. 2. She has been unleashing her inner wild child since filing for divorce last month from Kevin Federline, her husband of two years.

Her recent nights out with party girls Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan — and those uncensored, R-rated crotch shots that were splashed across the Web — drew disapproval from her fans and other Spears watchers.

Spears and Federline, 28, have a 1-year-old son, Sean Preston, and an infant son, Jayden James, who was born Sept. 12. Spears is seeking custody of both children, with visitation rights for Federline.

Federline, an aspiring rapper, is seeking spousal support and sole custody of his sons with Spears.

Eddie Murphy and former Spice Girl Melanie Brown may have dated earlier this year, but the actor-comedian is making it clear that he’s not sure if he’s the father of her unborn child.

Murphy, who stars in the upcoming “Dreamgirls” film, was recently asked if he was excited that Brown — known as Scary Spice when she was in the megahit group of the ’90s — was pregnant.

She has been photographed recently with an expanding belly. “So are you happy with her because she’s pregnant with your child?” asked a Dutch TV interviewer, apparently referring to Brown, according to TMZ.com.

“Now you’re being presumptuous, because we’re not together anymore,” Murphy said. “And I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir.”

A clip of the interview was posted Tuesday on TMZ.com. Arnold Robinson, a spokesman for Murphy, told The Associated Press he doesn’t comment on Murphy’s personal life. The AP was attempting Tuesday to find a representative for Brown.

Murphy, 45, escorted film producer Tracey Edmonds to the premiere of “Dreamgirls” in New York on Monday night. When asked by AP Television News if Edmonds is his “new lady,” he smiled and replied, “Yeah.”

People magazine, on its Web site Tuesday, quoted Edmonds, the ex-wife of singer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, as saying she’s been dating Murphy “for about a month and a half.”

Murphy’s wife, Nicole, filed for divorce last year, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple were married in 1993 and have five children together.

Eddie Murphy has said that he’s not sure if he’s the father of ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown’s unborn child. Brown, however, says she’s quite certain that he is.

“I am obviously upset and distressed at some of the comments made by Eddie Murphy to the media,” Brown, 31, said in a statement released Thursday by her publicist, Nadine Bibi. “I have no idea why anybody would want to conduct themselves in this kind of manner about such a personal matter in such a public way. My main concern is for the well-being of my daughter, Phoenix, and of course the baby.

I was astonished what Eddie said. There is absolutely no question that Eddie is the father.”

Bibi said Brown — known as Scary Spice when she was in the megahit group of the ’90s — wasn’t giving interviews “at this stage.” Murphy, who stars in the upcoming “Dreamgirls” film, was recently asked by a TV interviewer if he was excited that Brown was pregnant.

“Now you’re being presumptuous because we’re not together anymore,” Murphy replied. “And I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir.”
